Planning Family Events

Hosting events during book fair week generates excitement, increases attendance, and lets students bond with family and friends by sharing stories—and shopping for books. Here are a few ideas that have been a big hit at other schools:

Creative Contests

Add another layer to your events by holding contests that inspire kids to tap into their creativity. Remember, you can use your Book Profit rewards to award books to the winners!

  • Ask students to write a story inspired by the book fair theme. Have a librarian judge the submissions. Bonus points for illustrations!
  • Invite students to draw (or recreate) the cover of an epic adventure. Have the art teacher select a number of winners.
  • Can students guess the number of pages in a popular library book or the number of books in their school library? Offer a bookish prize for the closest guess!
  • Have students create a poster with this season's book fair theme. Display posters around the school to build excitement for what's to come!
